CRM client patches for Microsoft Office Outlook available

Regarding fix availability for the issue described in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 913270: Error message when you use the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook: "Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

  • Packages for the RTM client were released to Customer Service and Support Monday 1/22 @ 10:30 AM.
  • Packages for the SPE (Service Provider Edition) client were released to Customer Service and Support Thursday 1/25 @ 7:30 AM.
  • Packages for the V3i (Chinese and Japanese) client were released to Customer Service and Support Friday 1/26 @ 2:30 AM.
  • English packages for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM clients for Outlook Compatibility Update ("V3c") client were released to Customer Service and Support Tuesday 1/30 @ 10:00 AM.
  • French, German, Russian, and Dutch packages for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM clients for Outlook Compatibility Update ("V3c") client were released to Customer Service and Support Tuesday 1/31 @ 8:00 AM.

We’re expediting release of patches for the remaining Microsoft Dynamics CRM clients for Outlook Compatibility Update ("V3c") languages.  They will be released shortly in the order of the Release-To-Manufacture language releases:

  • Tier 2: Spanish, Danish, Brazilian, Italian
  • Tier 3: Polish, Swedish, Hungarian, Czech, Turkish, Norwegian
  • Tier 4: Greek, Finnish, Portuguese

Regarding the v3c patches: When Customer Service and Support provides you with patches for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM clients for Outlook Compatibility Update ("V3c") you’ll receive a self-extractor: <extractor #>_ENU_i386_zip.exe.  Run the self-extractor, you’ll see four patches + a readme (hotfix.txt):

  • 01/21/2007 04:12 AM 3,221,912 CRM3.0-KB931270-Client-ENU.exe (for servicing RTM client)
  • 01/21/2007 04:13 AM 3,528,088 CRM3.0-KB931270-Server-ENU.exe (for servicing RTM server)
  • 01/29/2007 05:25 PM 399,360 CRM3.0c-KB931270-DesktopClient-ENU.msp (for servicing v3c Desktop client)
  • 01/29/2007 05:25 PM 399,360 CRM3.0c-KB931270-LaptopClient-ENU.msp (for servicing v3c Laptop client)
  • 01/30/2007 03:28 AM 2,241 hotfix.txt

The MSP install is silent.  It will show a screen momentarily before finishing the install, which happens very quickly.  This is by design.  If you look in the Add/Remove Programs (Start >> Run >> Appwiz.cpl), you will then see that the fix is installed.

Future client packages released to Customer Service and Support will be a “one-click” install, you will not be required to select from a list of client packages.  The Microsoft CRM hotfix installer will handle installing the correct patch based on the Microsoft Windows client version and Microsoft CRM client version you’re running.  We released the 913270 patches via a simpler self-extractor to expedite delivery of this critical fix.

Hotfixes available via Customer Service and Support now will be publicly available from the Microsoft Download Center via upcoming CRM v3 Update Roll-up releases.

Thank you,

Greg Nichols

    Hi Greg,

What is a good practice here – should Microsoft CRM partners distribute these type of "popular" Hot Fixes to their customers, or submit a support incident for each one?

I’m interested to know the official answer.

    Thanks,

    Frank

    Frank –

Good question, thanks for asking.  There should be a support incident for each “LDR”  (Limited Distribution Release) hotfix.  These fixes are meant to be available only through Customer Service and Support.  Our recommendation is to only install available hotfixes for issues that actually impact your business. “Available Hotfix” lists are available for Microsoft Dynamics CRM v3 (including Chinese and Japanese) and Microsoft Dynamics CRM v3 Service Provider Edition.

Periodically, all available hotfixes for the above-mentioned SKUs are combined into an Update Rollup released to the Microsoft Download Center – for example, Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM v3.  These Update Rollups are publicly available. Partners should feel free to distribute such publicly available Rollups to their customers.  We recommend to all customers that they test then deploy our Update Rollups as they become available.

    Thanks,

    Greg Nichols

has anyone experienced a situation where the outlook client works for a period of time, but then becomes unresponsive. i.e. click on an area of CRM such as ‘Account’, but the page/view is not loaded.  Sometimes outlook becomes completely unresponsive, other times you can navigate to other areas of Outlook such as Inbox, calendar, etc.  This is happening on a Windows XP Tablet Edition running Outlook 2007 and the V3C laptop client.

    Austin,

Are you using the POP3/SMTP Email Account setup or Exchange setup?
