Visual Studio 2012 Update 2

The second update to Visual Studio 2012 is now available for download. For full details, see the following blog posts: Visual Studio team blog, Somasegar’s blog, and Visual Studio ALM + Team Foundation Server blog.

See KB 2797912

Compiler and CRT

VS 2012 Update 2 includes a new version of the compiler (17.00.60315).

The C/C++ Runtime was not updated, so you should continue to use the VS 2012 Update 1 version (11.0.51106).

Graphics Diagnostics

VS 2012 Update 2 includes stability and performance improvements for the Graphics Diagnostics feature. This includes improved support for KB 2680838.

Windows XP developers: There have been some reported issues with using the “v110_xp” Platform Target with Update 2. This is fixed in Visual Studio 2012 Update 3.

Well, every time I try to debug a DirectX app (I mean graphical debugging), VS2012 just freezes and has to be killed. Where can I report this ?

  2. Everything VS related can be reported at their Connect site.

What OS, what VS version, what API version (D3D9, D3D10, D3D11, D3D11.1, D2D, etc.), and what kind of app (x86, x64 native C++, C#, ?)

  3. Dev says:

The amd64 compiler is still not fully updated.

cl.exe is still version 50727, but the other files such as c1.dll are at version 60315.

When compiling _MSC_FULL_VER is reported as 170050727.

I though this "X64-based Visual C++ tool set does not contain all cumulative fixes for the x86-based Visual C++ tool set in Visual Studio 2012 updates" was supposed to fix this issue.

  4. @Dev – It should be functionally the same as all the relevant compiler fixes are in the updated DLLs, but you are correct that _MSC_FULL_VER can't be used to detect the VS 2012 Update 2 vs. Update 1 or RTM in the amd64 toolset as a side-effect.
