Have a couple people indicate resetting Passwords in Power BI is harder than it needs to be. So thought i would take a look.
Step 1. Run into a situation where you need to reset the password of an account.
Note if you need to do a lot of accounts PowerShell is probably easier, please see: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/charles_sterling/2015/06/29/creating-users-in-an-azure-ad-in-bulk/
Step 2. Walk through the captcha screens….
Step 3. DOH…AAD wasn’t setup to reset passwords (If are the admin see below how to do this)
Step 4. For managed accounts your only option will be to send email to the Admin
Step 5. Log into the Office Portal. If this Office Tenant that Power BI created for you, you may need to claim admin ownership.
Step 6. Click on “Reset a password” and hit Reset!
A BETTER WAY – Let your users reset their own passwords
Rather than forcing the admin to reset the password you can enable this in AD. Log in to your
Step 8. Find the “user password reset policy” option
Step 9. Enabling Password Reset you are given a plethora of options. One to take notice is the authentication methods as it may require editing the user’s account.
(see step 10 where i have done this)
Step 10. Ensure your users have the information needed for authentication (yep that really is my mobile number<g>).
IF this is not their the user will not be able to reset their password.
