On May 18th we announced an exciting new tool designed to put Silverlight creation in the hands of everyday folks who want to create exciting interactive interfaces and who want to express themselves on the web. So what is this tool? Announcing Popfly! So what is Popfly ?

  • Popfly is the fun and easy way to build and share mash-ups, gadgets and Web pages using pre-built "Blocks" that connect to online services.
  • With Popfly you will be able to easily build your first mash-up in minutes using the built-in tutorials and community features to get help fast.
  • Popfly will also provide an online community for all non-professional developers to share their creations ranging from mashups to custom AJAX-applications to Windows projects.

As part of the kickoff of Popfly the Microsoft team put it on display at Maker Faire. Maker Faire is "A two-day, family-friendly event that celebrates arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. It's for creative, resourceful folks who like to tinker and love to make things.  Microsoft's goal with the Visual Studio Express Editions, Popfly and all of our products targeted to the non-professional developer is to bring the power of technology to the growing hobbyist market and to the legions of computer –savvy teenagers and young adults.
