I (Heart) WinDev: A Blog Series for Canadian Windows Developers

In this series of blog posts, I will be sharing my perspective on the world of the Windows development. I’ll examine various APIs, frameworks, and tools for building applications that run on the Windows platform. I’ll also share some of the stories of those individuals in the Canadian developer community who are building next generation applications for Windows today.

So, what is a Windows developer?

Windows developers are folks who build applications that utilize the .NET Framework or Win32 API and its associated frameworks or tools for building rich client applications. These include the Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC), Visual Studio, Windows Forms, and the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). Another class of applications that falls under this definition are those applications that run on the Windows Mobile platform. I’ll make sure to cover these as well.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to take the time to check out some of the great resources available online for Windows developers, starting with WindowsClient.NET. Here, you will find a number of great articles and videos that will get you up to speed on building applications using Windows Forms and WPF.

Also make sure to check out the various developer centres located on MSDN. These include the developer centres for the .NET Framework, Windows Vista, and Windows Mobile. For a full listing of the developer centres available on Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN), make sure to check out the following URL:
