All you ever wanted to know about Microsoft Licensing

One of the things that we hear quite a bit about is that our software licensing policies, processes and options are too complicated.  I'll admit that it can certainly be a complicated and mind-numbing process to wrap your head around the various licensing options we provide to our customers.

Part of the reason why it seems so complicated is that sometimes the licensing information available to you is either not present or simply not easy to understand.  To alleviate some of those issues, two colleagues of mine (Jamie Wakeam and Rob Kent) will be hosting a webcast on licensing on November 1st, 2007 at 2:00PM EST.  Click here to register for this webcast.  If you miss the live presentation, you will be able to view it after the fact at that same link.

The agenda for the webcast is as follows:

  • An understanding of Open and Select Licenses
  • An overview of the ISV Royalty Licensing Program
  • An overview of the Service Provider Licensing Agreement (SPLA)
  • Open Q&A session - Please be sure to post your questions ahead of time at:

Also, as a point of reference, we have an all-up licensing portal on the Microsoft website that should be able to provide you with a great deal of information on licensing.  Feel free to browse it and contact your Microsoft representative if you have any questions around licensing.
