The Road to Imagine Cup Korea - T-Minus 9 Days

The theme for this year's Imagine Cup is Education - the challenge is "Imagine a world where technology enables a better education for all." (the themes year after year are similar in one way - they challenges students to thing of ways that software can be used in citizenship and improve people's lives).

There were hundreds of Canadians that participated in the challenge, so you can imagine the enormous amount of brain power, imagination and creativity from students who came up with great solutions! I used to teach at Durham College in the Web developer program - one of the things that really struck me was how much I would learn from the students as an instructor.

In 2008, the Imagine Cup theme is the Environment - the challenge is to "Imagine a world where technology enables a sustainable environment. A world where technology is an ally of the planet, not an adversary. A world where software enables us to interpret environmental indicators, predict the outcomes of our actions, improve our consumption of precious resources, and live more in balance with our environment."

The Imagine Cup challenge is split up into 3 categories: Technology SolutionsSkills Challenges, and Digital Arts. In future blog posts, I'll provide more information about each of the challenges, and what really cool solutions came out of our Canadian team. Here is another video of students (including our Canadians finalists) demoing their entries in the Technology Solutions category, and Bill Gate's comments about each entry:
