As I’ve mentioned, I’m a big fan of scripting. It’s normally faster for me to type than to click. But there are times that it is difficult to do some operations in script – they are just easier in a graphical interface.
One of those places is showing the permissions on an object. While it isn’t difficult to show explicit permissions, it’s another matter to show effective permissions. We show that today in SQL Server Management Studio, but we looked at it again yesterday. There are a lot of things as a DBA that I’d like to see there differently, and I’d also love the ability to export that information so that you could see a delta between one day and another.
More to come.
