SQL Server 2008 Improvements Practicals – Y Mucho Mas

I gave a presentation at TechEd 2008 where I covered our new features in "A Day in the Life of a DBA". Here's more of what I showed for midnight - "Eine kleine Nachtmusik ":

I've shown you lots of new features that save you precious time at the office. So now you get to go home – on time for a change!
But is there anything that will *keep* you at home? Am you going to have to come in at midnight again? Let's see:

  • Policy Based Management:  Policies prevent issues from occurring

  • Transparent Data Encryption: No-code change and the database is protected when that salesperson loses his laptop in the airport

  • Replication Enhancements: Faster and more reliable, especially on Windows 2008 Server

  • Change Data Capture: No more hand-coded fragile scripts to track data changes at night

  • SSIS processor enhancements: Takes advantage of multi-core to minimize deadlocks during the nightly ETL process

  • SSIS Data Profiling Task: Make your ETL processes more efficient

  • Reporting Services now needs no Web Server: Lowers attack Surface

  • SQL Server Audit: No hand-crafted DDL trigger traces running at night

  • Auto page corruption recovery for Database Mirroring: Fixes on the fly
