Longhorn (Windows Server) and SQL Server

Feeling a bit adventurous, I’ve installed the latest Longhorn Beta and then SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on top of it. Other than the inevitable video driver issues, it’s been pretty stable. One feature I do like is the “Server Manager” that pops up when you start. While this can be a pain, in this case I’ve found it to be pretty useful, especially since it puts most of the things I need right there in front when I start. I’ve been using the “diagnostics” section, where the Event Logs are stored. These have been beefed up, and they include new views on the logging information. I currently use the “Administrative Events” view, but you can also create your own. I’m going to try mixing events from SQL Server and the OS and other apps I care about into a combined SQL Server view, much like I do with performance counters. I’ll let you know how that works out.
