Stsadm export and import – correction for moving Project workspaces.

I have updated the previous posting but for you RSS readers worth putting this in a new blog.  After import I wasn’t seeing the active issues alert on my home page showing the issues in the imported sites.  Inclusion of the –includeusersecurity flag on both the export and import ensures the user settings are maintained and then the active issues are correctly identified for users.  Therefore the full command line looks like:

stsadm -o export -url "http://brismithv0832:8080/CAL/Project1 with Workspace in PWA" -filename "Cbackupsavesite.bak" –includeusersecurity –nofilecompression

With the import just having a different port – and possibly PWA instance name.

I am still investigating the fact that I am unable to add new task links to issues after the import – and that I do not see existing links.  For sites migrated to a different port from PWA therefore avoiding export/import I do not see this issue.  It could be my server is sick – but at least one reader has experienced the same issues.  I will keep you all posted.

    Hi Brian,

    Did you ever fix the problem with adding new tasks? After importing Project Workspaces to a different server I’m now getting "File not found" errors when trying to add or edit Issues and Risks.

    Everything else works though, so it seems a little weird…

    Best regards,

    Jens

  2. No fix yet I’m afraid Jens – still looking in to this one.  I wasn’t getting file not found though – it does appear to work, but just doesn’t, so I guess you are seeing something slighlty different.

    Best regards,

    Brian

    The above mentioned problem with the risk and issues list was fixed following the procedure below:

    After importing the new sites.

    Relinking the Project Workspaces to the Projects

    To link an existing project plan to an imported workspace do this from the PWA Home Page select ‘Server Settings | Operational Policies | Project Workspaces’

    Select the newly created schedule and click ‘Edit Site Address’

    Key in the URL of the existing ‘pre-project’ workspace:

    Select ‘Test URL’ which, if the URL is correct, will launch the workspace, then select ‘OK’

    regards

    Valentine

    I am having the same issue. After backing up and restoring Production to a Test environment I can not create or open an existing item on this two lists:

    PWA -> Lists -> Issues

    PWA -> Lists -> Risks

    Other existing lists work. New list also work.

    I tried to do the suggestions posted by Valentine Nzekwe but I couldn’t…it seems that it doesn’t apply to lists created under PWA.

    Thanks for all your help. Have a nice weekend.
