Mutant League Football: Bring it back!

Mutant League Football was, in my opinion, one of the best video games ever made. It was released in 1993 by Electronic Arts. It was a football game, except that your teams were made up of - well - mutant alien creatures. A "long bomb" equated to throwing an explosive-rigged ball to one of your receivers, ducking out of the way at the last minute, then letting the other team intercept it and getting blown to pieces! Certain fields were littered with land mines, pits, and other contraptions designed to take your players out of the game.

Now wouldn't it be cool if EA was to release an updated version, taking advantage of all of the latest gaming technologies and platforms? My friend Ian thought so, too, so he started a petition to have EA bring the game into the 21st century.

If you're a Mutant League fan also (there was a hockey game, too) then I encourage you to sign the petition so we can float the customer demand in front of EA.

    Hear, hear!

To me, it’s like a pinball simulation that has "realistic physics" but adds nothing to a "real" pinball machine. I mean, if I wanted to play pinball, I’d go to an arcade and play *real* pinball. If I play pinball on a PC, why *shouldn’t* there be teleporting balls, black holes, and all the other stuff that’s just not possible in real life?

I understand that football (hockey too) is a fun and challenging game without these fantasy additions, but if I wanted to play "real" football, guess what I’d do? *I’d play realy football*! If I play football on a PC/console, I want to be able to do far-out stuff that you just can’t do in real life.

It’s like why I like playing Burnout 3 more than I like playing WRC. Or why I like Unreal Tournament more than Rainbow Six.

Of course, this is all just my own opinion. I can still understand the enjoyment people get from games like WRC and Madden NFL (cause most of really *can’t* play in the NFL or drive in the WRC) but I just like taking things to extreme 🙂

Dean, I love the way you put that. I couldn’t agree with you more! Which is exactly why I can’t wait to do something else unrealistic (shoot aliens) once Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 ship. Hope you sign the petition! Let’s get Mutant League back. 🙂

  3. Ian says:

Once you sign, be a good petitioner and send the link to a few MLF fan friends of yours, and have them do the same!

I had completely forgotten that game, and like an estranged grandfather lost at sea, you, like the most favorable of tides, brought it home to me.

I’d sign that petition, as surely as I would welcome back a grandfather now dead to the world.

You Have To Bring Back The Mutant League I Mean Football Is Just Not The Same Without It

I agree 110% that Mutant Leauge Football needs to come back, but how? Who own’s the licence for the series? If we knew that then we could have a good chance of getting our vocies heard.
