The ingenuity and practicality of the PDC attendee

While I certainly think Windows Vista, Office “12”, WWF, Linq, VSTA and Expression are cool… I am personally blown away by the ingenuity and practicality of the attendees here at the PDC. Let me give you an example…

But first, some background.. as you may know, we have a sold out show this week at the PDC, as such there are a ton of folks here and in any given timeslot there is one or two sessions that are so popular that we often, in real time, open up an overflow room and pipe in the video (slides, demos and presenter). I gotta say the system works like a charm… I saw one session get overflowed into a big room, then a few minutes later that room get overflowed into a 2nd then 3rd room. All on-demand and in real-time.

While this is cool, the coolest thing is the secondary effect none of us could have predicted. One of my colleagues noticed a group of attendees standing outside an overflow room that was not yet in use. He assumed they were misdirected and so asked them what they were looking for. They said something like: “Whatever the most popular session is… we figure whatever session overflows will get piped in here and we will be ready for it!”… It seems that some attendees have decided the most efficient way to catch the best sessions is to just hang out in the overflow rooms… now that is good thinking! ;-)

Enjoy the show…
