Now that BizTalk Server 2006 is everything but wrapped up and out the door we’re putting a large amount of effort into thinking about the near and long term future direction of not only BizTalk Server but also about the foundational technologies such as Windows Workflow Foundation, Windows Communications Foundation, InfoCard and the Active Directory which future versions will heavily leverage. The group at Microsoft which owns all of these technologies as well as BizTalk Server is called the Connected Systems Division. One of the first things that become apparent in our planning exercises is that we need many more, smart, qualified people to reach our goals and we need them ASAP. If you’re interested enough in BizTalk Server to be reading this blog then we know you’re smart. The next step is to go to the Microsoft job site (https://members.microsoft.com/careers/default.mspx) and search for jobs in CSD that you’re qualified for. Keep coming back to the site often because new jobs will be posted on a regular basis for the foreseeable future.
Interesting opportunities are also surfacing in the Application Platform and Developer Marketing group. The latest thinking around not only BizTalk Server 2006 but also SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005 and the .NET Framework 2.0 as a complete application platform have the creative juices flowing around here like I haven’t seen since the glory days of 2002 when the .NET Framework 1.0 shipped. I’ve historically changed jobs every 2 or 3 years at the company. I tend to get board doing the same thing for a long period of time. I can tell you that the opportunity for growth in this space has been and continues to be phenomenal. After 3 ¾ years, I’m standing pat right where I am. The product that we’re building and the technologies we’re creating to support it, are changing at a rapid pace. I have complete confidence that Microsoft and specifically the Connected Systems Division and the Application Platform and Developer Marketing groups will define the application middleware market for at least the next 5 years. If you like working on tough problems then this is definetely the place to show your stuff.
