Melbourne (Australia) 6 August 2015 – The projected stabilisation of Australia’s IT job market has come to fruition, according to the latest stats from tech career marketplace Gooroo.
The new financial year saw an increase in job postings of 7.7% in the month of July, mirroring the pattern observed in previous years, and reversing the downward trend of preceding months.
According to Gooroo Chief Executive Officer Greg Muller, this is an encouraging sign for the tech industry in Australia.
“Salaries are on par with last month at an average of $99,453, and the number of job postings increased to 29,093 meaning the downward slide we saw over the first half of the year is now behind us,” says Mr Muller.
“The news still isn’t great if your main skills are in infrastructure however, as it was the only area to see a significant decrease in average salaries, dropping almost $5000 in just the last month,” Muller says.
Attracting the highest salaries are software development, database and big data skills, with average earnings in excess of $100,000 and seeing the highest number of job postings.
“It’s reflective of a market that is moving rapidly to using cloud technologies,” concluded Muller.
Australia’s tech job market differs markedly to that of both the UK and US where salaries fell 2.4% and 5.4% in July respectively. Advertised positions also fell in the UK over the past month, but rose in the US.
