Calling all ASP.NET 2.0 sites!

Have you built a site using ASP.NET 2.0?  Did you use a Starter Kit?  Is it hosted online?

Well if you have, I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT — I want to see it.  I’m working on highlighting sites that people have built using 2.0 and ultimately highlighting individuals who have done remarkable things with our platform and tools.  So get your stuff on my radar.

I can’t wait to see what you have built.

I have a pretty awful website — http://www.virtualgoldfarb.com/ built — it is using a pretty heavily modified version of the Personal Web Site Starter Kit — removed the DB dependency so the images are served from the file system and xml files (courtesey of ScottGu, I’m trying to bug him to finish the fucntioanlity and release it is as a starter kit :)  help me) — make fun of me all you want.

  1. i am not a designer :-( but my 2.0 site is alive http://www.preishuber.net

The more intresting thing is that we have migrated one of our confernces sites (www.asp-konferenz.de) and it takes only a few minutes and some changes in html code.

Works cool and is now better to manage and handle from diffrent persons which diffrent tools (eg frontpage)

But we have not changed to master pages at this time

    Well mine isn’t much either, but it’s a 2.0 site, at http://www.ipona.com/.

  3. Zubair says:

    Hey,

How do you people got your ASP.NET 2.0 websites hosted?

Well, I know there are some providers offering paid-hosting for ASP.NET 2.0, but is there any free provider out there?, mine has not yet upgraded to ASP.NET 2.0 (afraid of its crashing issues and incompatibility with IIS6) and I am not ready to invest in it atleast not in the Beta stage 😉

I’ve just finished a site in .NET 2.0. It has turned out really nice. The features in .NET 2.0 allowed me to concentrate a lot more on user experience.

    Check it out here: http://www.webjots.com

WebJots allows people to quickly save, retrieve, and organize notes and ideas aka jots. Jots entered into WebJots are personal notes (not publicly viewable) as opposed to blogs which are meant for public viewing.

  5. bgold says:

Rich, Webjots is very very cool!!!

    Hi,

Our new B2B site is purely written in asp.net 2.0 using C#.

    Cheers,

    Atul

Please have a look at our new site. http://www.wizbids.com. This site allows developers and other freelance professionals to find freelance projects. It also enables businesses to outsource projects to freelance professionals. This site was prototyped in 1.1, and architected with the PDC bits of 2.0. With the release of .NET 2.0 b1, we began the development of the production version of the site. When .NET 2.0 b2 was released, we began to prep the code for the production rollout. We just launched the site a few days ago and are happy to report a very stable and highly performant system.

Starter kits were not referenced and it is hosted at rackspace on dedicated servers. Master-pages, generics, system.transactions, etc. all proved invaluable in this release and we are very happy with our decision to adopt the next generation platform ahead of the curve.

  8. Hi our site is not quite done yet, we’re in the process of scoping out all the dev details and feature list. But we’re trying to develop a blog engine that will take full advantage of the new features of .NET 2.0. The site is more intended to be used as resource for learning with the use of a side project. The url is <a href="http://ablogin.net">ablogin.net</a&gt; if you would like to take a look.

Rigth now we just have a VERY simple master page with child pages setup since we just started the project this past monday.

WizBids remains very stable, but deployment has become a bit of a pain in the neck. w/o clearing the asp.net temp cache, we get random

An error occurred while try to load the string resources (GetModuleHandle failed with error -2147023483). Besides that, things are humming along.

  11. Graham says:

Hey Kyle, did you ever figure out a real fix for the "error occurred while try to load the string resources" issue?!?

What a pain – I would love to know of a way to get around this without having to manually delete files. This issue has bitten me pretty badly, because nothing will be wrong with my files and my live production website will just go down with no warning.

  12. Qing says:

    Hi Kyle and Graham,

This is a known issue as reported by other customers at http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/ProductFeedback/viewFeedback.aspx?feedbackid=c34573a4-8b5d-479f-9ec7-c5a0fd1274f3. It should be fixed now in the RTM release. Please let us know if you still run into this error when you get the released version. Thanks for helping us improve the product quality!

P.S. If, by any chance, your application is on a FAT32 drive, please move it to NTFS as this issue might still occur. And, there are other security issues as well related to FAT32.

    Thanks,

    Qing

  19. bgold says:

From the team (Stefan Schackow, specifically):

The error comes from attempting to compile notlogin.ascx.  I would try stopping the IIS process and Visual Studio (if VS is up).  Then go into %windir%Microsoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files.  Find the name of the website – and delete all directories associated with it.  Then restart IIS and try running the site again.  That will force a recompile of everything from scratch.
