LightSwitch Community & Content Rollup– June 2013

A while back I started posting a monthly rollup of interesting community happenings, content, samples and extensions popping up around Visual Studio LightSwitch . If you missed those rollups you can check them all out here: LightSwitch Community & Content Rollups .

Yay summer! My favorite time of the year. Lots of good stuff happened in the month of June, particularly last week at Build when we released Visual Studio 2013 Preview and showed off the new features in the next version of Visual Studio LightSwitch. Read on for more LightSwitch goodness….

Visual Studio 2013 Preview!

Last week the previews of Visual Studio 2013 and Windows 8.1 were released for developers to test drive as well as some awesome new updates to Windows Azure.

The LightSwitch team also has some great new features in VS2013 that we’ve added based on customer feedback -- most notably, multi-designer and better team development support! See the LightSwitch Team announcement here for info:

We’ve also started rolling out detailed posts on all the new features on the LightSwitch Team Blog so check there often. And make sure to read the release notes and give us feedback in the LightSwitch forum.

Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 Released

Last week Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 was also released. You can download it here: Visual Studio 2012 Update 3.

This is a FREE update to those that have Visual Studio 2012 installed. The update doesn’t include any new LightSwitch features, but it does incorporate several bug fixes, most notably the JavaScript Intellisense issues, so it’s a good idea to get this update particularly if you’re building HTML clients.

Conference Presentations from TechEd US, TechEd Europe & Build

Lot’s of big conferences happened in June, TechEd US, TechEd Europe and of course, Build! Check out all the content & sessions the team delivered, including downloadable slides...

Joe (Pro) Binder, Principal Program Manager on the LightSwitch team, delivered an awesome session at Build that highlighted a lot of the new features in VS2013 Preview as well as what’s coming in the future. Check that out here:

Yours truly also delivered a couple sessions at TechEd US highlighting the HTML5 and SharePoint capabilities we added in Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 that was released in early April. The first session was so popular that I was asked to repeat it on the last day of the conference. That LightSwitch session also ranked in the top 10 developer sessions at TechEd!

Heinrich Wendel, Program Manager on the LightSwitch HTML client team, delivered the same sessions with his own bit of flair at TechEd Europe and his sessions also ranked highly… great job, dude!

Also don’t miss these Hands-on-Labs that you can try out right from your computer, even if you don’t have Visual Studio installed!

Let’s Code with LightSwitch!

In the same spirit of the “Let’s Code” series of internet videos, Robert MacLean has created a unedited, real-time, video series where he builds a blog in LightSwitch using the HTML client. I watched the first couple episodes and it’s very fun to see him build a real application where he walks you through what’s he’s doing in real time (mistakes and all!).
