New for Xbox Dev Mode - publish apps for Xbox One and Xbox Dev Mode Companion app

I want to highlight a couple of new features available starting this week for developers using Xbox Dev Mode.

Publish UWPs for Xbox One

You can now use Dev Center to publish your UWP apps for Xbox One consoles. You can read more details about this functionality in this blog post and in the Dev Center documentation. A couple of notes:

Xbox Dev Mode Companion app

We have published an app in the Windows 10 Store named Xbox Dev Mode Companion (Preview). It allows you to remotely connect to an Xbox One console and control it, including by using an Xbox One controller that is plugged into your PC. This app can be handy for quickly iterating on your app because you don’t need to switch back and forth between your PC and console.

You can install the app by browsing to https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh519cp from a Windows 10 PC.

The app has a couple of limitations to be aware of:

  • The PC running the app and the Xbox One console must be on the same sub-net.
  • The Xbox One console must be in the RETAIL sandbox or XDKS.1 sandbox.

App Dev on Xbox videos

As I previously mentioned, there was a live event on August 30, 2016 that went into more detail about UWP app development for Xbox One. The video for this event is available for on-demand viewing at https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/projects/campaigns/app-dev-on-xbox-event.
