More details about protected content playback errors in Update Rollup 2

I have previously posted blog entries (here, here and here) about protected content playback errors that we have seen in some cases after installing Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I created a new article that contains detailed information about this problem as we work on a fix. I have posted the following information in this article:

  • A combination of all of the previous information in a central location
  • Additional information about how to troubleshoot and diagnose the root cause
  • How to try to workaround the problems until we can finish testing and publish a fix
  • Some of the causes of the issue we have seen so far

I know that it is very painful to not be able to view your content in Media Center due to these issues, and I assure you that we are dedicating significant time and effort in understanding the root causes and fully testing fixes that we hope to have available soon.
