Recent SharePoint Search Announcements

I wanted to quickly update everyone on a few key announcements and upcoming releases that were recently posted about here in the space of SharePoint Search. For starters, the Release Candidate of Microsoft Search Server Express is available for download from https://www.microsoft.com/enterprisesearch. Expect that to release, along with Microsoft Search Server (MSS) 2008, in the first half of Calendar Year 2008. If you want to learn more about it, visit https://www.microsoft.com/enterprisesearch and check out the following videos that were recorded by our own Microsoft Search celebrity, Richard Riley:

  1. Installation & Configuration: https://www.microsoft.com/winme/0711/31250/Installation_and_Config/Default.html
  2. End User Experience: https://www.microsoft.com/winme/0711/31250/End_User_Experience/Default.html
  3. Federation: https://www.microsoft.com/winme/0711/31250/Federation/Default.html

Furthermore, those of you who are Office SharePoint Server 2007 customers, expect to see an update after SP1 sometime in the first half of CY08 which adds some of the new search features to MOSS (for example, the federation framework). Also, another interesting upcoming release that will also come in the first half of CY 2008 are protocol handlers for FileNet and Documentum that will be supported by Microsoft. J
