What is AMQP and what is the role of Microsoft in this?

· As part of Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to openness and interoperability, Microsoft is joining the AMQP Working Group  which includes Cisco, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Börse Systems, Envoy Technologies, Goldman Sachs, iMatix Corporation, IONA Technologies, Novell, J.P. Morgan, Rabbit Technologies, Red Hat, TWIST Process Innovations, WSO2, and 29West.  .

· Microsoft is joining the AMQP Working Group at the request of its members, including several of our customers in the financial services industry, in order to support the development of interoperability solutions across heterogeneous IT environments.

· When it comes to messaging solutions, customers are seeking scalable approaches with lower costs that will allow messaging within the enterprise and outside the corporate infrastructure. The AMQP Working Group hopes to deliver interoperable solutions to customers based upon its specification.

· By participating in the AMQP Working Group, Microsoft is seeking to contribute toward the development of the specification and to enable greater customer choice in the marketplace.

· Microsoft’s participation in the AMQP Working Group will allow us to determine how best to promote interoperability for existing or new market implementations of AMQP based upon the need for customer choice and improved messaging interoperability.
