Experiencing Data Gaps for Availability Data Type – 08/03 – Resolved

This is a retroactive notification for an incident related to the Availability Data Type in Application Insights. Upon reviewing the data for 08/02, we noticed a gap in availability data from 08/02 21:00 UTC to 08/03 00:00 UTC. We’ve confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of 08/03, 00:00 UTC. Our logs show the incident started on 08/02, 21:00 UTC and that during the 3 hours that it took to resolve the issue, our customers experienced loss of an estimated 20 percent of their availability data. Alerting based on this data was also impacted during the said time frame.
  • Root Cause: The failure was due to availability issues pertaining to back end storage systems used in our pipeline.
  • Lessons Learned: We recognize the need to triage and resolve such issues in a more expedited manner. The team has already identified certain monitoring gaps and is in the process of addressing these issues.
