Experiencing Data Loss for Continuous Export for many Data Types – 05/05 – Resolved

Starting at approximately 4/26 20:15 UTC, some customers may have experienced data loss when using the Continuous Export feature in Application Insights. We’ve confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of 5/4, 23:40 UTC. We estimate that customers using the export service would have lost up to 36 percent of their export data during the course of the incident.
  • Root Cause: The failure was root caused to the continued use of a legacy service following the introduction of structural changes in our data processing pipeline.
  • Lessons Learned: We acknowledge the lack of proactive monitoring here which could have detected this issue earlier. Our engineers are reviewing the captured telemetry to add proactive detection and early diagnostics for incidents similar to this.
