Experiencing Data Latency for Many Data Types – 12/01 – Resolved

Final Update: Tuesday, 01 December 2015 22:56 UTC

We've confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of 12/1, 22:35 UTC. Our logs show the incident started on 12/1, 22:00 UTC and that during the 35 that it took to resolve the issue, approximately 1.5% of customers experienced latency for Application Insights data.
  • Root Cause: The failure was due to a spike in traffic associated with the beginning of the month which caused some traffic to be delayed in processing and placed into a backlog queue.  This backlog queue took longer than expected to process due to the volume of traffic.
  • Lessons Learned: we have added extra processing bandwidth and will investigate additional improvements to telemetry and monitoring in order to proactively resolve these issues.
  • Incident Timeline: 35 minutes - 12/1, 22:00 UTC through 12/1, 22:35 UTC

We understand that customers rely on Application Insights as a critical service and apologize for any impact this incident caused.
