Experiencing Alerting failure for Availability Data Type – 10/27 – Resolved

We experienced a repeat occurrence of the same issue for a brief interval of time again from 10/27 19:00 UTC to 10/27 19:20 UTC. The mitigation step applied before hadn’t completely solved the problem. We have applied a more permanent mitigation step which has now resolved the incident. 

  • Root Cause: The failure was due to loss of performance on one of our back end instances.
  • Incident Timeline:  20 minutes – 10/27, 19:00 UTC through 10/27, 19:20 UTC

This is retrospective communication to inform our users that Application Insights suffered a transient failure from  10/27/15 17:50 UTC to 10/27/15 18:08 UTC and that during 20 minutes that it took to resolve the issue 30% of customers experienced failure to get availability data and alerts
 
  • Root Cause: The failure was due to a system instability which was taken care off promptly
