Experiencing Data Latency for Many Data Types – 10/15 – Resolved

We’ve confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of 10/16, 12:10 UTC. Our logs show the incident started on 10/15, 18:45 UTC and that during the 5 hours that it took to resolve the issue small percentage of customers experienced data latency for
Page Load and Performance Counter data types.

  • Root Cause: The failure was due to issues with backend infrastructure configuration.
  • Lessons Learned: We have corrected the issue with configuration, which should prevent such problems in the future.

Root cause has been isolated to issues with backend infrastructure configuration which was impacting application insights processing service. To address this issue we scaled up parts of infrastructure. Processing service is now working as expected. Some customers may experience data latency for Page load data type and we estimate 2-4 hours before all backlog data is processed.
