Experiencing Data Loss for Many Data Type – 5/24 – Resolved

We’ve confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of 5/24, 22:40 UTC. Our logs show the incident started on 5/24, 21:07 UTC and that during the impacted window some  of customers might have experienced service unavailable errors while submitting telemetry data.

Our SDK does retry so there are is a high possibility that the telemetry data will make its way through to our ingestion service on retries.

As a preventive measure we have scaled out our service to help it with the extra load that it might receive.

Root Cause: The root cause is not completely understood at the moment. We are working on understanding the same.

We are aware of issues within Application Insights and are actively investigating. Some customers may experience Data Loss while submitting telemetry data to our East US region. A retry on the client side may help less the chances of loss during ingestion.
