UI automation for Silverlight apps now available in feature pack 2 for VS 2010

Visual Studio 2010 Feature Pack 2 is now available to MSDN subscribers.

The feature pack contains some much awaited bits with which you can:

  • Use Microsoft Test Manager to capture and playback action recordings for Silverlight 4 applications.
  • Create coded UI tests for Silverlight 4 applications with Visual Studio 2010 Premium or Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate.
  • Edit coded UI tests using a graphical editor with Visual Studio 2010 Premium or Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate.
  • Use action recordings to fast forward through manual tests that need to support Mozilla Firefox 3.5 and 3.6.
  • Run coded UI tests for web applications using Mozilla Firefox 3.5 and 3.6 with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Premium or Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate.

I know a lot of you have been waiting for the Silverlight automation functionality to be released – give this a spin and let us know your feedback!

Error Message while using the Test Manager for Silverlight4 Microsoft Silverlight  currently not supported go to go.microsoft.com/fwlink for information on available add-in for  possible support.

Can you tell me how we can turn off the Action Log Data, Does this applies to the Silverligh UI code in Test. I saw there are other blogs and posting on the other websites people have a different opinion. Any comments or suggestions.

[Anu] Megh – sorry for the delayed response. Feature pack 2 is out now – check out my latest post

  2. Kunal Dobaria says:

Is it support  capture and playback action recordings for infragistics control?

[Anu] Kunal – this is not supported out of the box. But if the Infragistics control has implemented accessibility, it should work as is – however, this might not be the best solution. We rely on 3rd party vendors to provide support for custom controls.

  3. Vijet says:

    Hi Anu,

Kindly confirm whether Visual studio feature pack 2 supports the applications developed in silverlight 2 & 3 controls.

[Anu] Vijet – the feature pack supports only Silverlight 4.0. We dont have plans to support 2.0 or 3.0 with Coded UI test

  6. Thangavel says:

How to automate the Silverlight applications which having Windowless property set to "True"?

[Anu] Thangavel – our current version of the plugin does not support windowless controls unfortunately. I recommend you try our partner solution Telerik's Web Studio for SL support of OOB apps.
