Chip and PIN, don't panic!

At long last, the UK is modernising and launching the Chip and PIN system in the UK at the end of the year, but not everyone is happy with the progress made so far...

There is someone at Silicon is grumbling about there being too many PINs to memorise. The banks are panicking that if retailers applied for Chip and PIN on mass, it could cause major problems for the banks.

The RNIB is pointing out legitimate concerns regarding consumers' understanding of the new system following a Mystery Shopping study they ran, and according to another piece of research 25% of UK retailers remain unconvinced of the benefit of replacing signatures with chip and PIN systems to authenticate card transactions.

I'm sure it will all work out in the end though...it is worth it. I used the system in New Zealand a couple of years ago, and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to buy a beer with my card. I just had to remember my PIN...not that hard, surely?
