Interview with Sasha Winston the TwinkleMap Developer

1. Could you please tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

My name is Sasha Winston-Onyiah. I have a degree in Electrical Engineering. I love watching movies. When I’m not writing code, that’s the next best thing I like to do. I blog too occasionally

2. How the idea of the TwinkleMap came to you?

One of the sites I like to visit is It’s all about getting people’s opinions and discussion on latest breaking news. But I felt the topics of discussion were restricted to a particular region. So I designed TwinkleMap to make everyone feel involved by getting discussions related to your region.

3. Why you decided to implement this idea specifically on Windows8/Windows Phone?

Windows 8 apps are easy to write. I’ve being doing WPF and Silverlight for a while so I felt kind of lucky that I could use my existing knowledge to design Metro/Modern apps. I have 3 apps in the Windows Store and a few others in the works, and I don’t plan on slowing down.

4. What resources on Microsoft or community side you found most helpful while working on the app?

Number one would have to be CodeProject. Then there’s Channel 9 and StackOverflow.

5. Could you please take us on a quick tour to understand your application better?

It’s a platform for people to ask questions, post breaking news, and share his/her opinions on issues.  Everybody’s got an opinion.

6. What are your interests behind technology?

I’m just fascinated by it. To develop something that will be used by a lot of people. That’s just wonderful.

7. Any plans for news apps or projects in general?

Of course. My next Windows 8 app will soon be released. It’s a mindblower.

8. What would you advise to Developers in the region who also would like to become #MEAHero?

Have passion for your work. That’s the most important step.

The second step would be to get to work. Once the passion is there, no matter the obstacles or frustrations you encounter during the work, you will do all right, and it will be worth it.

9. Where the community can catch up with you online or offline?
