What percentage of test takers memorized the answers to the worthless certs from brain dumps?

  2. Hi Dave,

Interesting question – I know the answer’s less than 100%. The brain dumps are an issue and MSL are working actively to minimise their effect. One good example of this are the simulations that some of the exams now include.

As a developer who’s sat a few of these exams now, I’d say that they do seem to measure my knowledge quite well (that is, I pass the exams on subjects I know well and I fail those I don’t know well). So to that extent, at least, I would dispute your assertion that the certs are worthless. Obviously, you wouldn’t use them as a sole measure of anyone’s comptency in a particular field.

dave, i can say its at least < 100 as i have done a few exams and not touched dumps, ever.

for me, the exams are a good way to provide me with a learning goal whilst exploring new areas. if i just memorised the dumps then i wouldn’t gain a thing from the exam and the money spent on them, obviously they are not for you, but for plenty of us, the provide a target and a bit of feedback on our own professional development.

It also shows the differences in difficulty between the VS2003 MCPs and the VS2005 ones.

  5. Thanks, Andrew, the voucher is most generous and a definite kick-start to get back into Microsoft certification! (It’s been almost 12 months since I took my last one, and even then that was .NET 2.0 !)

Like John, I’m putting mine online to keep me honest – http://www.alivad.com/?p=417 – !!

  6. Hi John and David,
